Grover Winter Campout

 

Per BSA regulations, all participants must have a full medical form on file (including physician's clearance) in order to go. The plan is to leave Friday afternoon, but if weather is not cooperating, we'll leave early Saturday morning.  Please note that with high elevation winter camping it has been the Troop policy to limit attendace to scouts with at least one year experience.   Exceptions are made if the scout's parent attends the campout.  We will not be bringing the troop trailer so more drivers and vehicles are always welcome.   Also a cold weather gear inspection before the campout is required.  Details below:
 
When:            Friday-Sunday, February 24 - 26
Where:          Grover Hot Springs State Park
What to Bring: Winter clothing and gear-- see below
Stuff to Do:     Snow (maybe?), hot springs, fun!
Meet:             Scout Lodge by 4pm on Friday.  
Return:          Approximately 3 pm on Sunday.
 
Requirements: 
-- Sign up and bring permission slip and $5 for camping fee by Feb. 6th troop meeting.
-- Must have full medical filed to participate.
-- Any first timers that don't get their gear inspected will not be allowed to attend.
 
More Info:
-- $10 gas fee (to help reimburse drivers) since round trip is between 100 and 200 miles
-- Hot spring/pool hours 11am - 7pm.  $7 adults/ $5 youth.  (No free re-entry)
-- Meal planning at Feb. 20th troop meeting 

Gear Inspection: 
-- Snow campers are required to bring their packed clothing/gear for inspection.  
-- Inspection will be Mon, Feb. 13th (multi-purpose night) between 6:30 and 8:00 at the Scout Lodge.  
-- List of required clothing and gear is below.
-- If you can't make this time, please call Mr. Horvath (772-3999) to make arrangements for your inspection.

Gear Inspection List:
Warm clothing cannot be cotton.  Synthetics, wool, fleece or poly are ideal.
-- Underwear
-- Long underwear ( not cotton)
-- Three pairs of warm non-cotton socks
-- Snow Gloves (two pairs is better)
-- Stocking Hat
-- Water proof Pants ( or snow board/ski bibs)
-- Winter Jacket
-- Mid layer warmth.  Such as a sweater or fleece pull over
-- Water proof Boots ( no summer hiking shoes or sneakers)
-- Winter Sleeping bag or two summer bags or extra fleece blanket (but not cotton)
-- Sunglasses, flashlight, sun screen
-- Mess kit
